Two pairs of chromosomes have condensed from the CHROMONEMA 
(the diffuse threads of nucleic acid found during interphase). They are a gray pair and a black pair. The two chromosome pairs will now SYNAPSE which means the members of a homologous pair will move close together. This phase of prophase is termed the ZYGOTENE phase. Flip to the next card.
